Whole Lot Of Love

Tonight I passed by a friends house, she use to be a single friend, now she has a boyfriend!
I did a  giddy double-take passing by her house. In the spot next to where she parks her truck…..
His car was over.

He was probably there too, awe, that’s sweet.  I was so moved by the sight of their cars sitting so close to one another, that I turned around and drove by again, just to look at them. ( ….and that’s where I get weird ) It is just, that these two cars sitting side by side, seemed to be enjoying each others company. Cars parked next to each other say so much.

Towards the end of my marriage I found that my husband and I were parking in odd and angry ways. We were juggling three vehicles in a driveway and sometimes I would be halfway across the lawn facing away from his truck, or he would have shimmied his rear bumper right in the face of my disgusted mini-van .

I have always been big into body language, and the relationship between inanimate objects, I can barely stand to be in a room where the photographs of people on the walls are facing away from each other. I have actually rearranged the art in perfect strangers homes so that their life size knight statues didn’t seem so aloof. The ease at which these vehicles sat in the driveway, sweetly flirtatious, gently angled…..it made me blush and smile.

Cars are something in between animate and  inanimate , they come alive when we turn them on, and eventually they die. I know that is not an original thought, entire feature films are dedicated to this idea. Surely they have some feeling. I have never seen an angry VW Bug or a happy MAC Truck. Seeing those two cars tonight reminded me of the quiet understanding of good company.

There is a new Feng Shui in town, and it is happening right now in parking lots everywhere. I have drawn the conclusion that the relationship between things, is just as important as the relationship between people. I wonder if my car is feeling lonely?  Maybe I should park her on the street.

*Update! Oct. 13th 2013. The owners of these vehicles got married !!!!, 2 years after I caught their cars canoodling under the stars…..
