Portraits

Finding the Extraordinary in the Ordinary

I can create a portrait of any person or any animal or anything that has a face. Even your house. (I suppose your house doesn’t have a face, but I could give it one). I love to capture personalities, inner worlds, lives well lived. Here are some of my specialties:

Life Sandwich Portraits

They celebrate the meat of your life, not just what you look like. Layered with personal details, special moments, favorite things, places you have been, pet peeves and inside jokes. A celebration of existence!

Pet Portraits

Life sandwiches, but for dogs. And cats and lizards and chickens. A guinea pig or two might have slipped in too.

Poke Around My Shop

Discover A little bit of everything you didn’t know you needed. Prints, books, illustrated oddities, and free things because sometimes the world needs a generous dose of generosity.

Off-Kilter Portraits

Nothing is off limits here. You can give a lot of direction or a little direction. No matter what, you won’t end up with something ordinary.

The More You Know ...

Other Shenanigans

You already know I draw. But did you know I also read fortunes in palms, tea, wine … macaroni and cheese? I break into bathtubs to rate the soaking experience on my patented rubber ducky scale. I lead classes, brainstorm sessions, and help hatch ideas you didn’t even know you had. Available for events big and small, near and far.

They Like Me, They Really Like Me

My work can be found worldwide on walls, logos, mantels, magazines, books, maps, menus, storefronts, murals, and more. Nothing beats hearing how much my clients love it.

"We've been privileged to work with ED on several projects including logo and menu design, animation/character creation and full blown montage-style artworks. She listens to the requirements, asks important questions and adds so much value by merit of her experience, creativity and technical talent. We actually LOOK for opportunities to work with ED!"
Alyson B. Miller
Founder of PivotGuild & Venture Growth
"I actually submitted it for a Cover Design Award for our trade association awards. It won a gold seal for excellence in our category of cover illustration."
Debbie Benke
Owner of Washington Parent magazine
I have used ED for numerous projects for my lifestyle magazine, Elegant Island Living. Her work is very unique and eye-catching to my readers. She is the most talented artist I have ever worked with. I would recommend her to any company or person who is trying to make his or her product "stand out" with unique visual marketing. As those of us who know Ed like to say, "There is only ONE, ED Hose."
David Butler
Owner/Publisher of Elegant Island Living Magazine
"Ed Hose was such a pleasure to work with! She easily took what was communicated to her and created a fabulous, one of a kind graduation announcement that my daughter was thrilled with. The announcement was a beautiful and fun way to incorporate what was special to my daughter about her college experience. Ed is not only a professional but also laid back, kind, and a lot of fun to work with. With not a bit of hesitation I would highly recommend the talents and artistic finery that is Ed Hose"
Cynthia Baird
Owner/Designer of Spice Island Jewels
"I've had the opportunity to commission Ed Hose for a number of projects, ranging from editorial illustrations to custom fine art pieces. Not only is she wildly creative, but she's also acutely aware of client needs and timelines. I've have been thrilled with the results every time I've had the pleasure of working with her. And I would highly recommend her to anyone looking for brilliant creativity and attention-grabbing artwork!"
